Returning to his roots in Molung Rural Municipality, he took up the role of an IT Officer in the local government. However, his aspirations transcended the confines of a bureaucratic job. Driven by a desire to serve as an elected representative, Gopal resigned from his position and contested the 2079 BS (2022 CE) local elections as a candidate for Ward Chairperson of Ward No. 5 in Molung Rural Municipality. Despite his popularity and grassroots support, internal party dynamics and opposition from some quarters led to his defeat. This setback, however, was not the end but a pivotal turning point in his journey.

Rising from Defeat: A New Chapter

The electoral loss in 2079 BS could have deterred a lesser spirit, but for Gopal, it was a catalyst for transformation. Undeterred, he enrolled in Nepal Law Campus to pursue a degree in law, a move that reflected his commitment to equipping himself with the tools to serve society better. Gopal’s resilience and strategic vision bore fruit in 2080 BS (2023 CE), when he was elected as a District Committee Member of the Communist Party of Nepal (UML) through open youth competition, securing a landslide victory. His popularity and ability to connect with the masses were undeniable. That same year, he completed his law degree and passed the bar examination, earning the title of advocate—a milestone that added another feather to his cap.

His ascent within ANNFSU was equally remarkable. Having served as a Standing Committee Member in the previous term, Gopal set his sights on the position of Secretary in the latest election. In a bold move, he ran as an independent candidate, unaffiliated with any factional lists. His campaign resonated with students nationwide, who saw in him a leader of integrity and capability. Defying the odds, Gopal won the coveted position of ANNFSU Secretary, becoming only the second leader from Okhaldhunga to hold such a high office in the organization, following in the footsteps of Yagya Raj Sunuwar, a current central committee member of CPN (UML) and a fellow resident of Ward No. 5.
