Okhaldhunga Dominates in PPLA: Niroula Elected General Secretary, Ghimire as Treasurer

  • Kathmandu: Senior advocate Amar Thapa has emerged victorious as the president of the Progressive and Professional Lawyers’ Organization, affiliated with CPN-UML. Thapa secured 256 votes, defeating his rival, establishment candidate Om Prasad Thapaliya, who received 213 votes.

    Similarly, Bhimsen Banjara was elected unopposed as the open vice-president. In the female vice-president category, Yasoda Devi Kharel won with 305 votes, while Hima Devi Basnet garnered 152 votes.

    Bhuwan Prasad Niroula was elected general secretary with 163 votes, defeating Chudamani Paudel (74 votes), Shiv Aryal (116 votes), Devi Prasad Bhattarai (83 votes), and Shantiram Khatiwada (27 votes). Baburam Rai won the deputy general secretary position with 217 votes, ahead of Balkrishna Acharya (121 votes) and Sahakul Khatri (118 votes).

    In the secretary position, Yubak Kumar Gautam (139 votes) and Mukunda Prasad Adhikari (131 votes) were elected. Adhikari and Hari Prasad Mainali both received 131 votes, but Adhikari won through a lottery. Kumar Ghimire secured the treasurer position with a significant margin. Both General Secretary Niroula and Treasurer Ghimire hail from Okhaldhunga and are recognized as established legal practitioners in the capital.

    Anita Gurung was elected secretary with 227 votes, narrowly defeating Radhika Khatiwada, who received 222 votes.
